                                                                                                         COMMON TREE-CHERNES PSEUDOSCORPIONS Chernes cimicoides (f, m)

·         A pair of Common Tree-chernes Pseudoscorpions Chernes cimicoides is shown indulging in a protracted mating courtship ritual during which they circled one another with claws inter-locked. There are likely to be potential hazards involved if they get this wrong as their claws contain poison! The photographer cannot claim responsibility for finding these tiny creatures. He had a chance encounter with members of a London Natural History Society field-trip who found them under the bark of a tree shortly afterwards. However the remainder of the party had disappeared by the time that the pseudoscorpions had moved close enough together for this interesting rigmarole to take place.
