·         This rather splendid Algerian Sand Lizard or Large Psammodromus Psammodromus algirus was one of several examples found at the Reserva da Faia Brava in Portugal although it was the only one that would allow itself to be photographed (and from very close range at that). The scales on the back strongly resemble overlapping leaves!
