An American alien in London – in the form of a
Florida Soft-shell Turtle Apalone ferox. A curious
looking creature (to say the least!), and one that was about 4,400 miles away
from its natural habitat, doubtless in consequence of having been kept in a
vivarium and then released after it had outgrown its home. This reptile may or
may not survive a relatively cool British climate in which it would be unlikely
to breed successfully, even if in the company of other members of the same
species.
